Having only been formed little over a year, Sheffield based Six-piece Metalcore band, One Year Dead have already had the chance to play Sheffield’s very own Tramlines festival, the band are ploughing through 2016 with string of upcoming shows and a weekend tour with MC Devvo. Be sure to check out their latest single ‘Most Days’!

Introduce yourself! Who are you and where did it all begin?
We are One Year Dead! We started out in May 2015 with 5 members (Ben, Jamie, Sam, Lewis and Jak). As we progressed we started to get a feel for the music we wanted to create and this made us feel that we would need to look for a 6th member. This is when Dave got invited to help out the band with his clean vocals, we all came to an agreement for Dave to stick with the band and carry on as a 6 piece metal core band.

How would you describe your sound in just 3 words?
Energetic, melodic, diverse

What has been your biggest highlight as a band so far?
Our biggest highlight so far would be releasing our e.p “You’ll Never Make It Home” back in February 2016, we released it at corporation to a sold out show.

Looking back at every song you’ve ever written as a band, which is your favourite to play and why?
Our most favourite song to play would have to be “Broken” which is on our e.p. The reason for this is there is a very lot of variation in this song which shows how diverse we can be. It’s a fun song to play, very melodic and ends with a big sounding breakdown.

If you could play at any festival in the world, where would you pick?
Obviously it’s going to be Download! It’s a festival we’ve all grown up watching, it’s got a bit everything and surely it’s every metal bands dream to play at download.

Who are your biggest musical influences?
We have quite of a wide range of music tastes in the band from folk to metal, but in terms of us writing we’d have to say, All That Remains, Machine Head, Trivium, Bury Tomorrow, While She Sleeps, Every time I Die and A Day To Remember.

If you could form a ‘super group’ with any other band on this year’s line-up, who would you pick?
If we could form a super group, we would attempt to form one with Lonely Island, they have something about them that no other group have, and we could potentially go down the route of a metal core hip hop track with some comedy gold behind the lyrics.

What would be your ideal tour line-up?
If we had the opportunity to play a line up with any band out there, we’d have to choose Avenged Sevenfold, Machine Head, While She Sleeps, A Day To Remember and Bullet For My Valentine.

What can we expect to see and hear from you in the future?
At the minute we are looking at getting our next e.p recorded and released, hopefully sometime within the new year, we have plans for filming a video for “testify” which is an unreleased song and hopefully will be released very shortly with our debut video. Long term plans, just carry on what we have been doing for the last year and fingers crossed we will make something out of what we have created as a band.
